Mass Casualty Plan and CBRN
Establishing a Mass Casualty Plan (MCP) for the management of CBRN contaminated victims follows the same general strategies as a standard MCP plan for any incident in which a large number of patients present at your facility over a relatively short period of time. The principal difference is the need to put in place measures to protect your staff and your facility from secondary exposure to the toxic agent. The solution is to set up a decontamination unit (DCU) at the entrance of your facility that permits removal of hazardous and non-hazardous contaminants from persons, clothing, and equipment. (see Module 4: Full PPE for staff protection when working in the decontamination unit). The decontamination process is likewise the first-line treatment for CBRN contaminated patients arriving at your facility.
